I have worked in two research areas: biomaterials (biodiesel from microalgae and yeast, and crystalline nano-cellulose from quila) and functional foods (omega-3 from heterotrophic microalgae, isolation and hydrolysis of plant proteins).

Also, I have inscribed a patent at INAPI (National Institute of Industrial Property in English) for a product that provides a process for obtaining a mixture of oils for biodiesel from microalgae and yeast oil. Its fatty acid profile is optimal for the production of biodiesel.
A statement of findings in conjunction with the University of Bio Bio, on the production of high crystallinity nano-cellulose from chusquea quila (Chilean bamboo). This biomaterial has been postulated as the replacement of graphene.
The process of producing DHA (omega-3 fatty acid) from heterotrophic microalgae was developed as a pilot (150 L) and is going to be produced at a scale of 1500 L in an industrial plant in southern Chile, which produces omega-3 from fish oil.
