Fort the past 20 years I have focused on the pharmacology of purinergic mechanisms, either in endothelial cell signaling molecules to understand how nucleotides lead to nitric oxide release as well as the role of ATP as a sympathetic co-transmitter.

During the course of my research years I have tutored 10 doctoral students and 9 postdoctoral fellows, most of them achieving high standard publications. During a three year period at Universidad de Santiago de Chile, I am tutoring two doctoral students, and have already trained 4 undergraduates of the Pharmacy or the Biochemistry Schools.
Along the years of research, I have used several mechanisms to publicize main highlights of our research. Initially I did journalism writing for El Mercurio, which had to be discontinued. Next, I did work with talented high school students attending the PENTA-UC program, a specially design program project for schools surrounding the University neighborhood. I did participate at this program for 10-12 years, until I retired from p. Universidad Católica. At Universidad de Santiago, I actively participate in three outreach opportunities. The main one related the Annual Scientific Fair, an event that brings to USACh school kids from selected schools all around the Santiago area. This fair is organized by the Faculty as part of the University Open House program. The second one related to motivational talks to the undergraduates on their first week at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology. The third opportunity relates to outreach debates or talks at the Universidad de Santiago Radio Broadcast Station, which plans within shortly to expand to a TV Transmission channel. The latter opportunity has a huge diffusion audience in the large metropolitan area and operates in an interactive mode. The Station receives audience phone calls, asking personal questions or asking an expansion on the debate topic in to areas of the audience interest.
