His principal supervisor was Prof. Ramón Frederick González, FCFM. Victor’s work focused on an urban scale climatization of a large housing development utilizing geothermal energy within Prof. Maturana’s case study research. His work provided an alternative solution to alleviate energy poverty affecting most low-income city dwellers. Victor graduated with the highest marks and the collaborative work concluded with a co-authored publication lead by Victor Rodriguez Nuñez (Rodríguez V., Muñoz M., Frederick R., y Maturana B., 2015). Prof. Maturana returned to Chile in 2012 after living for 27 years in Australia. This was the one of the first research to investigate the urban and social results of these housing projects in Chile and generated publications in international magazines, outreach activities, national and international networks, guided seminar studies and title projects for undergraduate students and formed the basis of a case study for a multidisciplinary work with the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Chile. She is now co-supervising a PhD student, Ana Spataru, from Deakin University, who is investigating similar issues in Melbourne Australia.
Concurrently in her role as Academic Director and International Relations of FAU UChile, and in relation to the international partnerships that were generated through the aforementioned research, Prof. Maturana increased international university collaboration and achieved additional mobility agreements (academic and student).
