Helen is an innovative and agile healthcare leader with a dynamic personality and a diverse range of expertise. She has the aptitude and capability of making strategic and operational contributions toward the delivery of the highest standard in clinical nursing practice, strategic workforce and service development, tertiary education, and contribution to research.
Helen has been a registered nurse and sick children’s nurse for over 30 years. She holds a PhD in Digital Health & Informatics and an MSc in Clinical Nursing (Nurse Practitioner UK). Helen is, currently employed as a Project Manager, Tasmanian Health Services (reviewing and procuring child and parental health electronic health record). She is an Adjunct researcher at Swinburne University of Technology. She also contributes the Australian Digital Health Agency Framework for Delivery as a highly experienced Clinical Reference Lead. As such she is regularly called upon to present to clinicians about the Agency’s work.
As a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health, the peak professional body for the digital health community, and active nurse member of the nursing and midwifery community of practice, Helen represents nursing informatics for Australia on The International Medical Informatics Association committee.
Helen’s current research focus is understanding the impact of digital health technology (EMR/HER) on the delivery of person-centred health and care for all vulnerable communities. Through education and continuing professional development opportunities Helen expects to expand her focus toward Health Professionals. Understanding the impact of digital health technology for our future healthcare professionals and our established health professionals.
Helen is co-editor of a book currently in writing Digital Health: A Workforce Approach (working title).
This educational text focuses on enabling students in gaining a comprehensive understanding of digital health. The target audience will be undergraduate, or post graduate level health professionals, or those professionals upskilling into the field.
Aligned to the Australian National Digital Health Workforce and Education Roadmap and supported by the National Nursing and Midwifery Digital Capabilities Framework (formative to proficient levels) Digital Health, A Workforce Approach 1st edition will be the first local Health Informatics title in the Australian and New Zealand market, reflecting Australasia specific contexts and supported by evidence-based practice and research. Digital Health, A Workforce Approach 1st edition will comprise four units: Foundation of Digital Health; Safe, Ethical, and Effective use of Digital Health; Integrated Technologies; and Digital Health Transformation. Each unit will include approximately 3 chapters. To promote learning, discussion questions, case studies and further reading will be included. Firm details of the contents are yet to be confirmed as the pace of change is rapid.
