Difusión y Transferencia

Free activities orientated to undergraduate and postgraduate students

Intermediate OpenFOAM Workshop December 2024 at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (27th of December 2024):
This ambitious version of the workshop was focused on teaching OpenFOAM users how to implement a solver of flow in porous media from scratch. Additionally, we taught how to implement mass transfer in porous media by including functionalities of a different solver into the porous media flow solver. We had 8 attendants. The contents of the workshop have been made publicly available at https://github.com/openfoam-ICL-UC/openfoam_intermedio_ES.

OpenFOAM for Chemical Engineering 2024 at Imperial College London - (17th and 18th of July 2024):
Co-organised with Catalina Pino Muñoz, we delved deep into the world of OpenFOAM for chemical engineering. With 17 attendees in person and 17 online on day 1, and 14 in person and 6 online on day 2, our mix of PhD and MSc students had an enriching experience both in learning and networking. We taught them the OpenFOAM workflow, utilising ParaView for advanced visualization, analysing complex transport phenomena, exploring 3-D forced convection heat transfer and time-dependent scenarios. The material has been made available for the public at: https://zenodo.org/records/12773057.

OpenFOAM for Chemical Engineering 2023 at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (19th and 20th of December 2023):
This is the first version of an OpenFOAM workshop that has the objective to train undergraduate, MSc and PhD students in Chemical Engineering and related disciplines to model and simulate realistic problems where mass and energy transfer are dependent of velocity profiles. OpenFOAM is an open-source CFD toolbox that has a steep learning curve. However, its computational efficiency, zero cost and possibility to customise the solver has positioned it as the option of choice for research in transport phenomena modelling. Accurate CFD models can accelerate the road to development for Chile and the energy transition globally. 25 attendants participated on the first day, and 15 on the second day. The material has been meda publicly available at https://github.com/openfoam-ICL-UC/openfoam_intro_ES

Premios y Distinciones

  •   John. S Archer Award for Research Excellence

    IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON

    Reino Unido, 2019

The John S Archer Award is for research excellence in petroleum geoscience and engineering and is awarded to a PhD student in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering who has demonstrated excellence. The first award was made in October of 2009. The John S Archer Endowment Fund was established by a group of his former PhD students in honour of Prof Archer, former Professor of Petroleum Engineering and Dean of the Royal School of Mines. Professor Archer was a much-respected member of the Royal School of Mines, and became Head of Department and Dean of the Royal School of Mines. He is remembered as a magnificent, generous and kind individual, which is why his students set up the scholarship in his name.
