"Con el Premio Excelencia Científica Adelina Gutiérrez 2020, en el Área Ciencias Exactas, se distinguió a la Dra. Valeria Herskovic, del Departamento de Ciencias de la Computación de la Facultad de Ingeniería y Co-directora del HAPLAB (“Human & Process Research Lab”); y por el Área Ciencias Naturales, a la Dra. , del Departamento de Fisiología de la Facultad de Ciencias Biológicas, ambas de la P. Universidad Católica de Chile. La Dra. Herskovic agradeció a la Academia por el reconocimiento: “estoy muy contenta de recibir este premio, creo que en especial en este año, en el que ha sido un gran desafío el conciliar diferentes obligaciones y adaptar nuestra investigación a formatos online o distanciados. Es para mí también un reconocimiento a nuestro grupo de investigación, Haplab, y al trabajo de nuestros estudiantes”. En la actualidad, la profesora se encuentra investigando temas relacionados con la computación centrada en los seres humanos, donde busca entender las necesidades de grupos de personas y desarrollar tecnologías que sean acordes a estas. “En ese ámbito, en el último tiempo hemos trabajado en el desarrollo de tecnologías para adultos mayores con bajas competencias digitales, por ejemplo, para monitorear su salud, mejorar su interacción con aplicaciones, o acercarlos a la tecnología. También, en entender cómo factores humanos – por ejemplo, la colaboración entre personal de salud – puede estar relacionada con los resultados de salud de los pacientes”, explicó. "
