As part of a Fondap project I am currently developing and implementing a new public transit mode choice model for Transantiago that aims to improve route designs and optimize future investments in public transport. The key characteristic of this tool is that it integrates aspects of individual behavior that have never before been incorporated, resulting in significant improvements in explanatory and predictive abilities compared to the traditional state-of-the-art and working tools currently available.
In 2013 I was appointed by the Minister of Public Works as a consultant and member of a panel of three experts responsible for improving the design and urban insertion of the Américo Vespucio Oriente project and moving this initiative forward. Also in 2013 I was asked by the Undersecretary of Transport to sit on a panel of experts charged with analyzing and advancing the National Transport Policy. And in 2012 I was named by the President to the board of Metro S.A.
In light of my previous achievements, my determination to join the CITRUS, I believe I am in a position to publish about 10 ISI journal articles over the next 5 years and win a Fondecyt project grant in addition to presenting papers at academic conferences. Over a 5-year period, with the new collaborative networks I would no doubt be able to help form, those numbers would be larger.
In addition, I would pursue extension and outreach projects that would bring in funds for the Department and/or the School through DICTUC and financing for undergraduate and post-graduate thesis work.
