SCIENTIFIC CONSULTANCY AND TRANSFER

2022- Scientific Adviser to the Ministry of the Environment in the Horizon Scanning (HS) process, led by British academic researchers Peter Robertson, Aileen Mill, Zarah Pattison and Ava Waine from the University of Newcastle, and Olaf Booy, representing the government From United Kingdom. This HS consensus workshop was held at the MMA, Santiago headquarters, from June 22 to 24, 2022. During the scientific advisory process, together with Doris Soto (UdeC), we led and coordinated the group of experts during the first semester of 2022 national studies on invasive species of freshwater aquatic systems in Chile and Latin American countries. The objectives of the HS process of the MMA were to generate a prioritized list of species for the eradication of IAS in Chile, and create a consensus list of species for their local control and/or reduction of impacts, and finally, develop an observation list of species for prevention and contingency plans for potential income.

2021- Scientific advisor for the NATIONAL FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE SERVICE (SERNAPESCA) regarding environmental contingency of detection of invasive jellyfish blooms of the genus Craspedacusta in lagoons of the Auraucania Region. Field, laboratory and cabinet activities were developed. The expansion of the geographic range of lagoons invaded by Craspedacusta in Andean lagoons in the Tolten river basin that present hydraulic connectivity with Lake Villarrica is confirmed.
