In my position as instructor of the Neuroscience Department at University of Chile, I have had the opportunity to dictate classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the areas of system neuroscience, and neuroscience applied to a clinical setting. Also, I've focused on mentoring younger neurology and neurosurgery residents.
As a neurologist working both in the in and out-patient settings, I assess several patients per day. I am trained in presenting
presumptive as well as differential diagnoses, referring to further studies, and giving guidance and support to their families. On the
other hand, my postgraduate studies have given me the skills to conduct numerous experiments in the areas of cellular and molecular
biology, behavioral virtual tests, as well as exhaustive bibliographic searches and reviews. This means a normal day in my life includes,
most frequently, trips to both the hospital and the laboratory.
On October of 2017, I had the chance to organize the first community-oriented scientific communication event “How do I take
care of my memory after turning 60 years old”, in the Faculty of Medicine of University of Chile. Over 200 people assisted. On
January last year, I was invited to Punta Arenas, one of the first three cities in Chile to implement a National Dementia Program, to
talk about this experience.
