El Premio “Ramón Salas Edwards” está destinado a destacar el mejor trabajo científico o tecnológico relacionado con la Ingeniería. El premio se otorgará anualmente a la (o las) persona(s) que, en conjunto, hayan elaborado dicho trabajo en los tres años anteriores al año en que se otorgue. En la elaboración del trabajo deberá haber una participación significativa de profesionales chilenos, los que eventualmente podrán no ser ingenieros. El premio se podrá otorgar, a modo de ejemplo, a un trabajo de investigación aplicada o de desarrollo experimental, publicado en una revista nacional o internacional, a un trabajo inédito, a una patente o solicitud de patente o eventualmente un libro.
