Regarding Pablo Sabat’s performance as a researcher, he has produced original research works and conducted scientific programs. This is reflected in his participation in more than ten research projects funded by national public and private institutions and foreign agencies. In particular, he acted as principal investigator of four consecutive FONDECYT projects in the past 12 years. In January 2009 he was awarded an international collaborative project by National Science Foundation (USA) for three years, which was developed in collaboration with North and South American researchers. In particular, these projects have allowed PS to develop and enhance a deficit area in our country, namely, studies on the ecological and evolutionary consequences of osmoregulatory functions of terrestrial vertebrates. These projects have resulted in gains in equipment, and in funding undergraduate and graduate students, generate publications in the most prestigious journals in the area (more than 80), and in presentations to national and international meetings. The research of PS has been successfully applied to conservation of endemic species, particularly to flamingoes and fishes, with the support of some Chilean mining and energy generating companies. Currently, PS has collaborative links with researchers from the following institutions: Ohio State University, University of South Dakota, University of Wyoming-Laramie, University of Washington-Seattle, American Museum of Natural History, University of Quebec, Universidad Estadual Paulista (Brazil), Universidad de Sao Paulo (Brazil), Austral University, (Chile), U. of La Serena (Chile), Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, (Spain), Universidad de Castilla La Mancha (Spain), Universidad de la República (Uruguay), and Universidad de San Luis (Argentina). . Further, PS has given courses and lectures to various actors who work in the area of environmental management, including governmental and private agencies. Finally, PS has lectured undergraduates and given media interviews (e.g., CNN Chile) about his work. Among the consultant activities, the following are highlighted:
2003 Ecological Consulting: : Production Design for coastal puddles "Ralco Project," Endesa.
2003 Ecological Consulting: Feasibility analysis ecosystem model development for the Salar de Punta Negra. Center for Applied Ecology, “Escondida” Mining Company.
2007 Ecological Consulting: Study of trophic interactions in the Cruces River Wetland through stable isotope analysis of carbon and nitrogen. Applied Ecology Centre-Endesa.
2009 Ecological Consulting: Study of critical speeds and transport costs limnic fauna in Chile. Center for Applied Ecology, Department of Water Resources (DGA, Chile).
2015 Ecological Consulting: Study Evaluation of the Ecological State of the Azonal System of Quebrada Huinquintipa. Center for Applied Ecology. "Collahuasi" Mining Company
