G.Ruz participated in the 2020 edition (November) of the Puerto Ideas Valparaíso Festival. The festival consists of an annual meeting dedicated to the exchange and circulation of humanistic, scientific and artistic ideas, aimed at the entire community. On this occasion, G.Ruz participated with Professor Sandra González-Bailón (Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania), in the session called “Navigating in a sea of likes” where they discussed the use of data science in social media analysis for a general audience.
G.Ruz was General Chair of the 2020 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CIBCB). This was the 17th version of the conference, and it was to be held in Viña del Mar (the first time in Latin America), however, due to the pandemic, it was held virtually (https://cibcb2020.uai.cl). Although this conference has a rather scientific focus, given the virtual format, a registration for 10USD was enabled for the general public. This was quite positive since a greater reach and dissemination was achieved (more than 30 enrolled under this category, most of them undergraduate students and the general public, not academic) of topics not common to the general public.
In August 2019, G.Ruz participated in the Seminar Challenges of the Incorporation of Artificial Intelligence and Technologies in Litigation, an activity organized by the UC Justice Reform Program and which was sponsored by the Chamber's Arbitration and Mediation Center of Commerce of Santiago (CAM Santiago). G.Ruz gave a talk entitled “A brief introduction to AI and applications” aimed mainly at students and professionals from the Chilean Judicial Branch.
G.Ruz has also given scientific talks (Gene regulatory network modeling) to high schools visiting our univerisity: SANTO DOMINGO, ALCAZAR DE LAS CONDES, Adventista de Las Condes, Instituto Claudio Matte, Colegio Institución Teresiana.
