ACTIVITIES REPORTED DURING THE FIRST CMRSP PROJECT
PI, Prof. Néstor Becerra Yoma
OBS- The PI participated in most of the activities but not in all of them
We started the IEEE Chile Chapter on SP. We launched a web page (http://www.ieeesps.cl), organized an IEEE SP DL tour (U.de Chile, UFRO and UACH), and a key note speaker talk at the regional conference IEEE Chilecon.
Several notes were showed in TV, or published in local newspapers, and in magazines and web sites at U.Chile, UFRO and USACH.
The UFRO team in collaboration with the PI of this project, and supported by the Anillo on SP, finished the Fondef Idea project “Plataforma de Procesamiento y Gestión de señales sísmicas para apoyar la identificación de eventos del volcán Llaima”. The idea of this project was to strengthen the research on volcanology and transfer expertise on signal processing to the Southern Andes Vulcano observatory (OVDAS, Observatorio Volcanológico de los Andes Sur).
The UFRO team in collaboration with the PI of this project, and supported by the Anillo on SP, was awarded a second Fondef Idea project to transfer the know-how obtained in the first project: “Implementación de un sistema de apoyo al monitoreo de la sismicidad del volcán Llaima”.
Several talks were given in “1000 científicos 1000 aulas”.
The following patent was presented in Chile for bubble size classification in the last day of December 2014: “Dispositivo y método para la clasificación del tamaño de burbujas en un líquido.”
A flotation column was built to enable the research group to explore the applicability of the technology protected by the patent in the mining industry (see letter from Case Cosulting). However, this technology is also applicable to other fields such as oil, food and medical industries.
Professor Millaray Curilem published an article in an internal UFRO magazine titled: “Ring Project supports the collaborative research for Signal Processing”. It was featured in a magazine entitled Extension Journal of theEngineering and Sciences Faculty at Universidad de La Frontera.
Professors Miguel Maldonado and Ismael Soto published an article in an electronic web journal at USACH: “Nuestra Universidad trabaja en pro de la cuprífera estatal mediante proyecto Anillos”, http://www.udesantiagoaldia.cl/content/nuestra-universidad-trabaja-en-pro-de-la-cuprifera-estatal-mediante-proyecto-anillos
The SP Anillo research team participated in the Explora-Conicyt Science and Technology Fair on October 6th and 7th, 2014. This project was the only current Anillo initiative to participate in this fair.
A web page was designed and a domain was created: http://www.cmrsp.cl.
A video about the center was recorded. It is available at the project web page and in vimeo.
Professor Ismael Soto presented two joint projects with the Chuquicamata copper mine: 1) Fondef: FIRST COMPETITION IN TWO STAGES 2014 IDeA and 2) CORFO LINE 2: APLIED R & D. In both cases the results will be available by December 2014.
