Dr. Rudnick has contributed to the education of engineers from Chile and Latin America, both through undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Universidad Catolica de Chile.
He has supervised and graduated 56 postgraduate students (Ph.D. and M.Sc.) in Electrical and Systems Engineering and 24 undergraduate students with final research thesis. He has been invited as an external examiner for Ph.D. students at different countries worldwide. He has lead different research projects funded mainly by Fondecyt and the UNDP, where he has involved his students.
During the last three years he has graduated 1 PhD student, 6 MSc students and 3 undergraduates with thesis. He currently has 4 PhD students and 8 MSc students.
Dr. Rudnick often is invited to speak at national and international conferences and is also frequently requested by the national and international media (newspapers, TV and radio) to share his knowledge and studies of the electric power sector of Chile and other Latin American countries.
He has contributed extensively to the development of energy public policy in Chile and Latin America, based on his research and professional experience. He is often requested by the Chilean government to provide his technical support to initiatives being assessed. In 2011 he was asked by the President and the Minister of Energy to form part of an advisory committee that proposed recommendations for the development of the national electrical system, in a sustainable, competitive, diversified and secure manner.
He has done studies and consulting work in the following areas of the energy (electricity and gas) sector: restructuring policies and bylaws, planning policies, power sector investment (generation, transmission and distribution), technical development, generation expansion, renewable assessment, transmission planning, reliability, information systems, operation of electrical systems, electricity costs and tariffs, gas investment and tariffs, development of the regulatory market, wholesale contracts, transmission open access, etc.
He has done consulting and public policy work with companies and governments in Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Central America, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, England, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Spain, Tasmania, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela, as well as with the UNDP, UNCTAD, IPCC and the World Bank. His contributions have served as reference for energy deregulation processes taking place in other parts of the world.
