Dr. Roa is a surgical and molecular Pathologist with extensive experience in biobanking and bioarchives, which are essential for the success of this project. Dr. Roa is one of the founder of the first biobank in Chile and is currently setting up the first biobank national network in Chile. He already has organized a Bioarchive in 2 different institutions and he is currently in-charge of the facilities dedicated to make tissue microarrays (TMA) blocks from different tumors. He has a completely characterized breast cancer cohort (clinical data and followup) and has currently recruited 1,000 patients with this disease. His molecular pathology lab is devoted to the identification and validation of biomarkers in gastrointestinal (gallbladder and gastric) and gynecological (breast and cervix cancer) tumors focusing on genetic predisposition, early diagnosis, prognosis and target. He has been PI and Co-PI on several gallbladder, cervix uterine cancer grants funded by the CORFO and Fondecyt programs. He has published over 150 peer reviewed scientific papers and numerous book chapters in the field. He is director of the Molecular Pathology Laboratory and former Director of Postgraduate and Research at the School of Medicine at Universidad de La Frontera. Since 2012, He is Director of the Department of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine and PI of the Molecular Pathology Research Laboratory at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and member of a study group on medicine for Fondecyt Program and a member of the academic committee of the Molecular Biology and the Medical Sciences doctoral programs.
