Difusión y Transferencia


Agustín Ibáñez es un neurocientífico argentino interesado en los enfoques globales de la demencia y la neurociencia social, cognitiva y afectiva. Es Profesor titular y Director del Latin American Brain Health Institute (BrainLat) de la Universidad Adolfo Ibañez (UAI, Chile). Además, es Senior Atlantic Fellow en GBHI-USFC y Profesor Adjunto de Investigación en GBHI-Trinity College Dublin y Team Leader del Predictive Brain Health Modelling Group en el Trinity College Dublin. El Dr. Ibañez cuenta con un historial de más de 350 publicaciones (+160 en los últimos cinco años), incluidas las 10 mejores revistas (por ejemplo, Nature Medicine, Lancet Neurology, World Psychiatry, Nature Reviews Neurology, Nature Human Behavior, Trends in Cognitive Sciences, Trends in Neuroscience, Nature Communications, JAMA Neurology, Neuron, Brain, Alzheimer's & Dementia, Nature Mental Health. Ha recibido múltiples financiamientos para la investigación por parte de diferentes asociaciones internacionales como NIH/NIA, Alzheimer’s Association, Fogarty International Center, Rainwater Charitable Foundation (Tau Consortium), Takeda, GBHI (USA); Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); ANID (Chile); COLCIENCIAS (Colombia); DAAD (Alemania); CONICET (Argentina); MRC (UK); Horizon 2020 (Europa). Como consultor, ha aportado su experiencia en biomarcadores digitales y enfoques globales de la demencia para startups y empresas. Esto incluye la colaboración con Neureka, Cumulus Neuroscience, Altoida, Robin, Prodeo, Lilly, Bluefield, Roche, Cites y Globant. El Dr. Ibáñez es el fundador de importantes iniciativas regionales, como el consorcio de socios múltiples para ampliar la investigación sobre la demencia en América Latina (ReDLat) y el Consorcio Latinoamericano y del Caribe sobre Demencia (LAC-CD) y el BrainLat, afiliado al GBHI (UCSF y Trinity), lanzado en 2021.
Estos proyectos han recibido más de 23 millones de dólares en fondos de investigación y cuentan con la participación de más de 60 investigadores en 13 centros de EE.UU. y Latinoamérica. Su equipo ha desarrollado un marco multicéntrico, basado en enfoques de neurociencia computacional y aprendizaje automático, para maximizar las réplicas en poblaciones diversas e infrarrepresentadas, entornos heterogéneos como los procedimientos automáticos basados en datos para clasificar a los pacientes mediante procesos de selección de características multinivel. Además, sus protocolos multicéntricos incluyen un marco computacional que integra diferentes características de neuroimagen. Ha desarrollado nuevos modelos de fenotipo cerebral, basados en interacciones cerebrales de alto orden, modelado semiempírico de todo el cerebro, perturbaciones en silico, modelos de codificación predictiva de la alostasis y marcos de clasificación de múltiples características de medidas conductuales y cerebrales. Su enfoque es especialmente robusto para diferentes técnicas, máquinas y protocolos, mejorando su replicabilidad en grandes estudios multicéntricos y abordando la variabilidad en los enfoques de procesamiento. Este marco computacional entre centros es útil para evaluar la cuantificación multimodal de imágenes y la comparación entre centros. Es miembro activo de diferentes sociedades (Team taskforce del Human Affectome Project, ex Presidente del Latin American Chapter of the Society for Social Neuroscience, Asesor del Consejo ISTAART y Asesor Científico del Consejo de la AAIC.
Agustín ha dirigido y codirigido más de 38 proyectos de investigación de postgrado y creó y dirigió la primera carrera de Ciencias del Comportamiento en Sudamérica en 2020. Ha recibido prestigiosos premios internacionales (entre ellos el Premio ALBA-Elsevier en Ciencias del Cerebro, Premio al Profesor Latinoamericano Destacado de la Fundación Penser, el Premio Nelson Butters de la Sociedad Internacional de Neuropsicología; el Premio Latinoamericano de la Sociedad de Investigación Psicofisiológica -cuatro veces-; el Premio de la Sociedad Internacional de Neuroimagen en Psiquiatría) y reconocimientos locales por su trabajo en salud cerebral (Reconocimiento destacado de la Legislatura de Buenos Aires en 2019; y el Premio al Vecino Destacado de la Ciudad de San Juan, su ciudad natal, en 2021). Además, ha establecido colaboraciones internacionales con centros de excelencia como la MRC Cognition and Brain Science Unit de Cambridge y la Universidad de Edimburgo (Reino Unido), la Universidad de Heidelberg (Alemania), la Universidad de Sydney (Australia), y las Universidades de California San Francisco, Nueva York, Caltech, Chicago y Wisconsin (EEUU), entre otras.
Es editor asociado de diferentes revistas. Su intenso trabajo ha ayudado a la neurociencia traslacional latinoamericana estableciendo un marco para involucrar a los científicos a través de pasantías, talleres, programas de maestrías y doctorado, organizando actividades educativas para la comunidad de la salud, y centrándose en la neurociencia cognitiva y las poblaciones de demencia subrepresentadas. Su investigación ha sido destacada en diferentes medios, como la BBC, Nature, Nature News, Discovery Channel, Popular Science, Daily Mail, Newsweek, Le Monde y Oxford University Press.
