Líneas de Investigación


Basically, my group's research focuses on studying the behavior of families of drugs whose mechanism of action involves the formation of free radicals. The study of these compounds is accomplished by electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry, and the characterization and analysis using electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR) Also, we study of short-lived radicals using spin trapping. Moreover,the experimental parameters are rationalized using theoretical models type, ab-initio and DFT. In the medical field, our group has studied the pathophysiological characteristics between tumor cells and parasites such as T. cruzi, focusing on bioenergetics and oxidative stress. Furthermore, we have studied various natural and synthetic compounds in order to alter these processes. Other aspect of our research involves the area of antioxidants studies, in recent years, his group has focused its research studies on several families of synthetic molecules (flavonoids, coumarins, chalcones among others) and food samples through methodologies ORAC FL ORAC PGR and ESR and spin trapping techniques which are used for the characterization and detection of radical species with short life.
